THIS ONE IS IN DUTCH – Earlier this year, Andrew didn’t come home from a fishing trip. For an experienced sailor and fisherman (as well as a boat builder) who knew the ins and out of the far north Queensland waterways this was highly unusual. After much antagonizing Erica, Andrew’s Dutch spouse, who had been sailing, living on the water with Andrew for the last 15 or so years sounded the alarm. After an extensive search, the couple’s small fishing boat was found, upside down among the mangroves, heavily damaged. Andrew had fallen victim to a saltwater crocodile measuring 4.5 meters in length. In this interview Erica recalls the harrowing experience, talks about the beauty of nature and life on the water.
