Crazy is as crazy does – Forest Gump

Australia!

For 4EB in Brisbane, I picked up a story from SBS, and they picked up… Me! I am the semi-regular “Brisbane Correspondent” for SBS Dutch, a nationally syndicated radio broadcast going to air twice a week. It sounds a bit like this. I also do voice work for special projects, like this one.

Radio, Brisbane

In October of 2019 I joined the Dutch language group of Brisbane-based ethnic radio station 4EB. I produced and presented the program JEROEN OM JE OREN, a broad take on magazine-style programming (I also co-host several other programs). During the Covid 19 crisis, I became the driving force to keeping listeners well-informed by conducting critical, up-to-date interviews with native langue medical professionals. If you are in Moreton Bay or the northern suburbs (and if you are a local you know where that is) you can catch it on 99.7FM otherwise just follow the link to listen online. It’s a bit of a departure from the talkies I normally do. This is all about the music baby!

Commercial

It’s not uncommon for me to provide training material for commercial purposes, in most cases I produce both the script and the visual material. For instance if using iPhone/Android apps to get a quote on your next shed is your thing, I have created a video for ShedBoss Australia to show just how easy it is to use their app!

BBC World Service

Possibly my proudest radio achievement! In 2006, shortly after starting starting my own podcast I was made aware that the police department of my city (Tulsa) published a rather unique blog. Police officers of all ranks wrote stories about their workdays. I contacted them to ask if I could record these (often hilarious) encounters of mid-western policing adventures. Shortly after, the Street Stories podcast was born. It wasn’t long until the Street Stories podcast gained an international audience of dedicated fans. This culminated in a documentary about the Street Stories that aired on  BBC World Service. Largely based on my format, the re-recorded antics of officers Jay and Will were chronicled in 24 Hours In Tulsa

Podcasting

In 2005 (or maybe it was 2004), I found MTV VJ, and honorary Dutch celebrity, Adam Curry on the cover of Wired Magazine. A new thing was about to blow up in everyone’s faces. Fueled by ever cheaper recording equipment and the invention of the iPod… a new breed of internet-only-radio-by-subscription was born. Hailing from small-town Kansas, I started my own BBQ infused, opinion & music show under the moniker Skinny White Boy.  I filled some 60+ episodes with sound-seeing tours, historical audio fragments and rather opinionated monologues… It wasn’t long before I also started doing voice-over work for other podcasters. I was a feature writer for Podcast User Magazine, the only podcasting magazine in the US library of Congress. SAMPLES AVAILABLE ON THE BLOG PAGE

Radio, Hilversum

In 1983/84 I was asked to join AVRO’s Youth Program “Waar geen wil is ben je weg” (Where there’s no will you’re away), a Dutch political discussion program on Radio II (Hilversum II). I became a member of the core panel of the program. This later led to a collaboration with Humberto Tan for Dutch TV show Forza TV
